Police Seek Help Finding Stolen Boat

KEMAH — Police are asking for public assistance to find a $55,000 boat stolen early Monday.

Police Detective Greg Rikard said officers patrolling the 1100 block of FM 518 shortly before 5 a.m. noticed a section of chain-link fence had been cut and pulled away at Maxim Marine.

Tire tracks and footprints suggested that something had been removed from the property, Rikard said. A Maxim Marine employee determined that a 2003 model 22-foot Boston Whaler owned by a Katy resident was missing. The boat was in the yard for repairs, Rikard said.

Rikard said the boat is a Series 220 Dauntless model with a center console and a Mercury 200XLHP Optimax engine. The boat’s license number is TX 9567JZ. Rikard said the boat was on a 23-foot Techson trailer, which also was missing. The trailer’s Texas license plate number is 18Y BKJ.

Anyone with information about the stolen boat is asked to call detective James Heard at (409) 334-5414.

Stolen Boat Found Stripped

KEMAH — A $55,000 Boston Whaler stolen from a marine service company this week was found Wednesday afternoon.

Police Lt. Greg Rikard said the boat was found near the bridge on FM 2004 over Austin Bayou. The boat was in a parking lot, stripped of its engine, hatch covers, trailer and nearly everything else that could be removed.

Kemah and Brazoria County investigators determined that someone attempted to eliminate the Boston Whaler hull by pouring a flammable liquid in it and continuing in a trail through the parking lot where someone attempted to ignite it.

Rikard said fingerprints and other evidence were recovered.

Anyone with information on the theft was asked to contact police detective James Heard at (281) 334-5414.
