Is it possible that they may still have velvet for this weekends opener?
Still saw some bucks in velvet this weekend...

Yes, it is very possible. The dry conditions can delay the shedding of the velvet. I know it is supposed to be triggered by the length of daylight, but other factors will impact the growth period. We had one year with a dry spring and early summer, then had late rains. Manyt of our bucks still had velvet Halloween weekend. We did not see any in velvet once gun season opened, about 2 weeks later. Maybe you will get lucky and get one in velvet. That would be a neat trophy. Good luck.

I saw a nice 150+ ten yesterday that looked like the velvet had dried on his antlers..Walker
