I have 18 ft kenner and looking at troll motors with spot lock. Some of you have these. Can you tell me your experience with the brands you have? Thanks

I recently switched from lead acid to a 24 volt 50 ah lithium and love it. This battery lasts forever. I have ran a lead acid dead once but haven’t come close to getting even to 50% on the lithium. If you go lithium you might consider getting one with Bluetooth. Really handy being able to check the battery level from your phone. Make sure you have proper sized wiring for the trolling motor and your wire connections are tight.

I used the Regular Walmart marine deep cycle 27 series batteries for years.
Replace about every 4yrs. boat stored in a hot garage.
2 batt for 24VDC
Not I have an EPOC 100AH, 24VDC Lithium batt with bluetooth.
I paid $1000 with charger and love it. The warranty is 11yrs.
Get good batteries as the trolling motor can bring you back to the launch if you break down.
This year I broke down on Conroe and trolled / fished my way back to the lauch
3 miles away. I could have went 8 miles etc.

If you get the Terrova, make sure you store properly before you run from spot to spot.
It can come unlocked - depoy and break off the bow. The colar needs to be down at the motor to run.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the lithium is the way to go. What length size shaft for the troll motor would I need for 18 ft boat? The bow to water line is about 42", so the chart says the 72" shaft is recommended. Would that sound about right? My current troll motor has 52" shaft and seems to be okay.

I have a Minn Kota Riptide Instinct Quest. It self deploys which is nice when youre up on the poling platform. I have a 60ah 36v Lithium Battery Power brand battery and after about 18 hours of use its still above 50% battery power remaining. Like habanerojooz said, get the Battery Tender brand plug.
