If you have a 'thang" for spiders, be sure to visit BBSP and walk the trail between 40 Acre Lake and Elm Lake. There are thousands of them guarding their webs from about 12 feet high to right off the ground. I've seen them out there before but never so many that close together. A smaller spider, probably it's mate, was with every large spider. (See the last photo).

What kind of spiders are these James?

You have some great spider photos there. What did you take it with?
Shot these with a Canon 20D using a 75-300 USM lens.

Just got back from BBSP and shot some more of these spiders using a 100-400 4.5 IS lens. Will post some of them later this evening. I've got to have that lens now!

These are golden silk spiders. If you will grab a handfull of the web or look to the sun just right the silk is a golden yellow color. The large ones are the females. The males are very, very small and brown in color. Other than size and color the males look very much like the females.
