I've seen them in Cabela's catalog

and just about anything in the catalog you can order online. They are priced about the same as you would pay at either Cut Rate.

Rockfish I had that happen to three of snapper slappers this weekend. I ended up using a 6" 80lb wire leader wrapped around the main eye to replace the "stinger". I do not like having to do that to a ten dollar lure. Does the manufacturer know of this problem?

they do catch fish. the hair on the jigs has a tendency to tangle. the stinger hook can fall off if it wasn't properly crimped. the paint on the head chips very easily. the owner of the company has been made aware of these issues. they have a booth each year at the houston boat show. you can get pricing if you buy in larger quanities (10 or more). they told me that they did improve the skirts in the past year. bottom line they do catch fish...rick

Snapper Slappers are incredible!!!

I bought a ton of 'em when they first came out and have used them almost exclusively since for snapper fishing. I have had very few troubles w/ them, although the hair does tangle and has to be straightened, and have yet to have one of the stinger hooks fail. My favorite is the 5 oz all white w/ a large mullet hooked on, and for some reason the snaps like it best, and the mullet stay on best, if I hook them through the eyes w/ the main hook. I usually outfish anyone in the boat 2 to 1 in both number and size of snapper caught. And, I have caught a lot of Kingfish, Sharks and the largest snapper when I feel a hit, miss it, and then start to burn the slapper back to the boat ie.: it's fleeing, get it!!! The slappers really shine when I set up a chum line and then cast the slapper as far as I can throw it down the line, let it sink for a bit and then start a slow retrieve back. It does an incredible job nailing the suspending bigger snappers.
I used my last 5 oz. Saturday and am getting ready to go find some more today, it will be interesting to see the improvements McGolfer mentioned.

The problem I had this weekend was the eye screwed into the back of the jig actually pulled out of the lead. The wire or crimp I can deal with but the point of fastening is a different story. these were on the 8 oz models.

Good lures but pricey!

I've found them to be efficient in catching fish but in general have had the same luck with similar lures when the bite is on. For the money I would think the lure would not have to be modified. I've used other leadhead type jigs that cost 2-4 dollars and simply wired on a stinger and have had the same results. I think the snapper slapper is a decent lure and it is merely a matter of preference. Besides, Woody and Russell are nice people and it's good to support a local business.
Just my .02

BTW, if you like to build your own lures try www.do-itmolds.com
That can take your cost down to around a buck a lure and you can make them any size, shape, and color you want. My dad does this on his Lil Fishies for trout. He couldn't find the size leadhead he wanted for the small fishies so he modified one from Do It. They work perfect!

Ez Ed

goes crazy when you mention Snapper Slappers! The first time he tied one on to his line, I just laughed at him and said, "don't expect to catch anything on THAT". Well, I ate his wake on that one! The second time, I was still unconvinced! Both times he has made me a believer! They do work well!

Tom Hilton gave me one of his new funky looking lures recently and I can't wait to try it. Has anyone seen them? Used them?
