For the past few years Ive shyed away from magnesium reels because I know they take alot of care and maintanence to keep from rusting. My curados have always required only basic wipedowns and work great trip after trip. The other day I bought a Chronarch MG. What kind of cleaning do I need to do after each trip? Ive never been great at fully taking reels apart and cleaning them and am not real experienced at it. What do I need to do? Thanks everybody

I've got two Chronarch 50mgs and I just spray them down real good when I get done fishing and once every few trips I take them apart, not all the way but just enough to access the inside. I've found that if they have too much grease on the inside they will not work as well. I get some degreaser at work we use for cleaning switchgears and spray them and lightly oil. I had trouble with one of them and sent it back to Shimano and they fixed it and sent it back. I haven't had any trouble with rusting or corrosion and IMO they are some of the best reels you can fish with.

I'm a believer in a product called reel magic. Just wipe your reel off after use and spray it with reel magic. I take them all the way to the gears pretty routinely but this is my between overhaul technique.

If you search this topic you will find a tonnnn of threads on cleaning them. Reel Magic is awesome and even helps reduce the memory in your line. Opening them up and treating them with some corrosion x is a good way to prevent any corrosion. If your not experienced with taking apart reels I would take it to Mikeinfriendswood on this board...

I recommend opening the right side plate and paying particular attention to the frame slot where the thumb bar pin moves up and down. I've had two corrode at that same spot.
