Man what a fine boat. I saw some at the boat show last night. There is only one thing negative about them on my mind. I have heard from 1 or 2 people that they are somewhat of a wet riding boat. I am on the verge of purchasing a new boat and this one tops my list. However, I can not stand a wet boat and was wondering if there are any Shearwater owners or people who have fished them that could enlighten me on this issue. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to gather as much info as possible before making a 40k + decision.

If I can spend 5k more and get the Ferrari of bay boats (shearwater), then that is what I would do. I am just concerned about the wet ride, Step 5; Now that the darts are finished, you might outta check out the Bay Ranger...haven't gotten wet in mine and the ride is great. Not the skinny water boat like a Mosca, Tran or others a great ride & high quality construction.
Former Shearwater Owner

Had a 2006 Shearwater W/ 250 xs...It was fast or quick anyway, Was for sale on classifieds of this board..Overall a Great boat.. As Long as you were wearing a scuba outfit and didnt need to get in water less than about 18" deep...And you were going to idle out to 25" to get it up..Owned it 4 months..Its a nice Product no doubt ,It rides excellant is whats weird. But the water coming over front of bow made anything more than a slick calm bay Look like a rerun of deadliest catch series...On another note Ordered a Mosca back in Febuary on the 28th...we are almost in July...I still Dont Have possesion of it...Seems like you are the mercy of the boatbuilders...Hope this helps,,The water over bow isnt to badd in Summer months,,But when its running down your neck in the Crack of your a*s in January and Feb...Its pretty brutal..
Ok guys. I started this thread with a very simple question. For the record, jtizzle had some very helpful information to offer. And jabx, well you had absolutely nothing to offer and all you did was screw up my thread and and turn it into a big elementary school argument. Did I say I was wanting to buy a Fast Cat? No, I didn't. I asked about the ride of a Shearwater. I want a fishing boat, not a race boat so I can look cool and run 100 mph while I am attempting to fish.

I got all the information I needed. Thanks to the ones that had something to say on the subject.
Your welcome...

And actually I do have some very pertinent info concerning this boat.....but...you can find it out on your own Scooter...

I did not read all of the posts, but if your looking for a " Thats the [email protected]# !! " boat that is fast ,dry and is custom made to your liking.Look at a 24FT VDR Southshore. It is 24ft long and 9'4" wide and will eat up chop and 3-4ft swells like you would not believe. Not many people have heard about this boat but there are a few on the water and the owners love them.Just some food for thought.

I would like to publicly apologize the JABX for referring to him as a jacka*s and a chihuahua. He resembles neither one of those animals, it was uncalled for, and I apologize. It may be hard to see, but he actually meant well here. Foreelyo, love and kisses to everyone involved.

majeks are the best boats ever.......please take one out before buying a shearwater.......go 50 mph over whitecaping chop......without getting wet.....the finish on majek i like better they are easier to maintain.....that other finish is more expensive and you have to srub it to keep white......majek you spray them down

With 182 posts you should know by now that the "Which is the best boat?" question always turns into a religious debate with several entertaining side arguments.

Thanks to Jabx1962 and jtizzel for the hilarious banter. I'm glad you guys made up. And I'm glad Catch5 got the info he was looking for. I hope your new boat brings in lot's of fish and even more good times.
I know exactly what you are talking about gottagofishing, but I was not trying to start a debate about which is the best boat. I just simply asked if anyone knew of the Shearwater being a wet riding boat. It just seems that no matter what the title of the thread, people always want to tell you to "take a look at this boat or that boat". Trust me, I have researched them all.... over a 2+ year period before getting to the point I am at now.
It's the price of free speech on the internet. Be sure to post a picture of the new boat when you get it. I'm looking at getting a new boat in a couple of years and I'm already doing research. Shearwater is one of the names still on my list. I like a dry boat as well and I'd be interested in your impressions if that's what you end up with.
