I performed an XP upgrade (always do them when they are sent from MS) and had to reboot after the upgrade was finished. While rebooting, got a message that a serious problem was on my HD and a crash was imminent. Pressed F1 as directed and the reboot completed normally. I backed up my documents, saved my super-secret password file and performed an export of my Outlook PST file to an external drive, just to be ready to impending doom.
Anything else that I should do before the belated Y2K bug hits?sad_smiles

Run a defrag on your hard drives. You can also go to command prompt and type
chkdsk /f
to run a check desk and fix and errors on each internal drive you have.

I would start collecting any information/documents/photos/music and anything else you wanted off the hard drive and on a safe storage place

If your computer came preloaded with windows it may or may not have capibilities of restoring from the hard drive. If so, it won't do you any good if the HD fails, but you can Create a restore disc from those files in most cases. I sugest you do so, now.
