SC Knot - Is it better than the FG?

This SC knot operates similarly to the FG, but it is much easier to tie and that is a giant plus. Here's a video of the SC knot from the same guy that taught me the FG knot with a rizzutto finish.

In this demo, take note of the remaining loop link that forms the 'D' part when tying this SC knot and his explanation of why it is needed. He also has a hack at the end to speed up the tying. I've seen this same hack in another video using a bell sinker attached to a large snap swivel. It appears that the SC is slightly fatter than the FG but knot strength is comparable. I'm going to give this SC knot a try.

Thanks for sharing. I've tried tying both, with more time on the water with FG knots. Maybe that influences my bias, but I like the FG because it is thinner; but I have recently begun finishing with the Rizzutto knot. The difference I do in process is to tighten the knot after the half-hitch, rather than after the finish (Rizzutto, or multiple half-hitches). I want that "Chinese Finger Cuffs" effect on the main knot, and not the locking knot.

For me the FG is a pain to tie on the water. I’ve been using the surgeons knot for braid to mono/fluoro leaders for several years and never had it slip. It’s not as strong as the FG but a lot easier and faster to tie at least for me and plenty strong for inshore and still goes through my eyes without issue.

I can tie a uni knot in my sleep, on a wave rocked boat, all day, every time.
Braid to mono is no problem just tie the uni slip knot and bring the loop down to very small then run the leader through and tie another uni knot and snug it down small.
Keep making the knots smaller until they are almost closed before tightening the two together.
This works great for any splice.
If you need EXTRA strength, as the uni is 90%, then tie double or triple uni knots to make the splice.
They will hold elephants.

i tie the Fg/Rizzuto finish and get several weeks/months/trips out of it. no need to tie on the water. you tie this knot once with a five foot leader and good for several trips. with micro guides on my rods I won't use any other knot. i used to use the back to back 3 wrap uni, but to big for my likings, after using the FG all other knots are to big for my likings.
