Decided to go fishing Sat afternoon and take my wife with me. Put the boat in at Fat Boys and headed out to check on some trout action,No luck. Then went up to an area near pelican Island.Fished for a couple hours with no luck and then the REDFISH showed up. Iget a fish on and hand the Billystix to Diane and the fight is on. This is a big Red! once he sees the boat he decides to go south and breaks off.We have five more hookups and get 2 in the boat. One 25 in. and one at 22 in. During all this excitement the tide goes out and drops about 1.7 ft. UH OH. We are now stuck in the sand. Not Good. It is now getting dark.
Diane is not fond of being on the water when it is dark. The mosquitos are now swarming and I left the ( Off ) setting on the table at home.Tried to call a couple of folks on the cell to see if they were able to help but they were not available. Time to hail TowBoats US.
A fellow fisherman herd the call and replied but was not able to get in close enough to help and we lost contact with him after that. Its about 9:00 PM now and we are waiting for Towboats US to show up.
Here comes a Skinny water boat and its the fisherman whom I had talked to on the VHF radio, First thing he does is give us a can of ( OFF ). We tried to get the boat out but wasnt gonna happen.
Thanks so much to James Wallace who is in a fishing club at BP, They were camping on the other side of the Island. Diane is really not doing to good now.
Towboat shows up about 10:00 PM and at 11:00 PM we make the 1 hour trip back to the dock. Diane doesnt want to go fishing with me anymore.
If your going to be on the water make sure you have a membership to TowBoats US and get the Max plan. Dont leave home with out OFF.

hey sidecutter, tell Diane i have been their done that before with darrell on the badhabit, only difference he made me wait for the tide to come back in the next day. it was not fun spending the night out on the water with the mosqutos and a thunderstorm and nothing to drink. so she was lucky.

more info

Thanks Guys,

The total bill for TowBoats US. was 516.00. The rate goes up if its after dark. I will for sure go get the maximum coverage this week so I dont have anymore out of pocket expense if it happens again, and it probably will. My policy only covered the first 350.00.

Sorry to hear about your trip, James. But I'm glad it turned out alright for y'all. Were you in the same general area we saw you and Josh a while back?

Thanks for the heads up on the "Off". I think I have some on board my boat but I will check and make sure it's there.

James, either Zach or I would have come and helped. Zach's boat runs real skinny, and he could at least have brought out provisions and skeeter spray. Sounds like ya have the Boat US thing faded now, though.

You know....I was thinking about this situation just a few days ago. With all the people on here we could start a distress list. I would gladly post up my cell number and try to help anybody in distress. Living in Seabrook I can get just about anywhere in the G-bay complex in about an hour. I can't really tow anyone in a larger boat but I could sure take you out of harms/skeeters way for the night. Wadda ya think. Should we start a list of number that everyone could copy and keep handy. I've been stuck all night before without repellant and it ain't no fun. I realise this is a public forum and something of this nature may not be a good idea but I thought I'd throw it out. Maybe a private list of some type?

James -- darn man.....

I saw where I had "1 unanswered call" on my cell -but no phone number showed up in the caller ID and no message. I feel like a total heel-- I was fishing at the Pellican Island bridge just before dark - probably 5 minutes from you. I did not have the VHF on - but I did have the cell on - just did not hear it ring.

A little earlier there were a whole bunch of folks camped out on the end of sand island and when I went by - you were not in the area as far as I could tell. A tug was having major difficulties with his tow in the channel and it was totally blocked for about 10 minutes. To all ----- DO NOT try to run outside the ICW channel on either side once you pass the barges it is VERY shallow --- stay in the channel or slow to idle speed and raise your motor.

James --- please next time keep calling me --- I know I could not have gotten my boat in there but **** man - I could have walked over there to you and at least taken Diane out with me - probably brought you some bug juice and anything else you needed. I had another guy and two 7 year old little girls with me - but I would have done anything I could.

I think a list of cell numbers is a good idea -- posting them on a public forum may not be - but I sure plan to get as many as I can and save them in my phone or make a list to carry on the boat. I have TowBoat US - but only the $50 on water towing - guess that's pretty worthless if a tow from Pelican Island to Fat boys - if you needed to be towed the whole way is $566. I've only needed a tow once -- from Confederate Reef to Galveston Bait Camp at the bridge - I was lucky enough to have someone stop and offer to tow me.

A distress call list sounds good to me...

Mike, Ray, that sounds like a good idea for a new thread. Sounds to me like all we need is one perosn to act as the keeper of the key and generate the list. Those that want to be on the call list send pm's or email to that one person. Then the list could be passed around via email to those that request it.

Heck it could even expand to areas other than Galveston if folks in other areas are interested in doing the same.

Since I live in Channelview, I should also be able to help out for someone needing help around Baytown/Trinity Bay/LaPorte/Kemah.
