Mrs Angler is wanting to attend an event at the AT&T Center. IF I did go for this...where would be a cool place to stay? Somewhere close by some attractions? The riverwalk (if its not too far from it) ? I can live without getting nailed on a high room rate too. I am pondering...

Try North of the airport on 281, or loop 410. It's more reasonable than the river walk, and downtown is just 10 minutes or less away.

Go all out! Stay at the Watermark or Hotel Contessa. THE best in town on the river!

What's your defination of "not too far" ?

Posana Anna (forget the street name) but it is just W of 281 & just S of 410, about 10 mins from downtown. Then go eat @ the Scenic Loop Cafe (don't be fooled by the name, it's great), N of SA on I-10. Ask for directions. They even have adult seating, get away from all those pesky kids that mom & dad won't find a babysitter for.

i suggest THE GUNTER if your looking to stay someplace nice ($200 ish/ night)
there really isnt any "nice" places to stay close to the at&t center as it is not down town.(not really in a good part of town)

Have you ever been to the Menger? Historic, built in 1859 and only about 100 yards from the Alamo. Go to the bar, it really makes you think about what it must have been like back before the west was won! Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders there. FYI...mengerhotel.com
