Saltwater worms.....????????

Here is a general question for everyone....

Last wed night, Kaylin and I were coming in from fishing Greens and Carancua lake... When we got to the north shoreline of jones... We stopped to make one last drift before the sun went down.

Looking off in the distance I saw a few birds and was wondering if they were working or not.... Looking back a few minutes later.... I saw HUNDREDS of birds and they were all working...

We decided to go check it out.. We got to the spot and putted dern near to the middle of the birds..The birds did not even shy away... We were throwing DOA's and soft plastics....

Kaylin said.. Hey Look at this... So i looked down in the water to see hundreds, if not thousands of little worms.... I scouped one up with the dip net we have in the boat.... They were little red worms, about 2 to 3" long.... Ive never really looked at these worms closely.. Most of the time that ive seen them has been swimming on top of the water under the lights at night.....

Can anyone give me the scoup on these worms.... There were lots of fish busting the surface at this spot.. But they all seemed to be small fish.... The question i have is...

Do trout and reds eat these worms with consistency...

Has anyone ever seem this happen... I mean, there must have been 10 acres of working birds over these worms...

Maybe it was a hatch or something.. Im not really sure...

Thanks for the time
