Wife managed to get me to drop big $$$ on a stainless Jennair Grill and tonight we used it for the first time. Sprayed the cooking surface with Pam for the Grill. Now the grate is black and the **** won't come off.

1. Should we just not worry about it?
2. Get a wire brush and some elbow grease?
3. Use oven cleaner?
4. None of the above.

Pam label said "for easy clean up"!!! Wife is perturbed - dinner was great!

If I was you...

I would spray the grill again and heat over low heat for an extended period. This will 'season' the grill and it will have a nice dark patina. Seasoned this way it wil just get darker with use and will form a pretty good non-stick surface to boot.

Rusty,

I don't think it will harm the grill, more like create a protective coating. If your really worried about it put it in your self-cleaning oven and clean both.
Dang! Yer not only a handsome Lab but brainy as well! That's an excellent suggestion! Very 2Cool!

Are the grates stainless? Don't think I've ever seen that. If so , try a resturant supply for some industrial strength stainless cleaner.

My cook top is stainless with a kind of painted black enamel grate. If that's the case , trust me, it ain't coming clean.

Don't Worry

Don't worry about it. It's good for the grill. The SS won't rust under the crud like the other grills. Just keep the outside looking good and enjoy the grill. When I cook on the grill I turn the heat on high for a while to burn off anything that may be harmful and take a wire brush to get all the crispies off the grilling surface.

I'm with Boston

Just heat it up on High Gas and scrap. Don't get all the crispies tho. Thats where some good seasoning comes from....LOL..Well I might work extra hard if I had cooked chicken last. Nothing like a good case of the chicken runs....:(
