Well Shark Bait It Is A Life Long Endeavor And I Don't Think You Ever Really Get It All. To Me Its A Passion And I Learn Every Day. You Just Need To Get Started And Do It. It Progresses From There.. Jmo Randall

I a full-time rod builder. I have been building rods for about 10 years. I think having a good teacher helps out tremendously. There is always something to learn on this board. I haven't had much more than 20 posts on here, but I have been lurking in here for quite awhile. I've recently decided to post up some of my thoughts, but I'll probably still mostly lurk. There are some really good guys that want to help each other out on this board and you'll get all the help you need. Just ask for it. Take care and tight wraps.

Sharbait,
One the first rods that I built was a surf rod for a friend of mine. That rod is still in use today and I built it in '78. Start out simply and build a servisable rod. Forget all the gaudy wraps for now. Get together with Goags and get the basics down. Check out www.rodbuiding.org and its photo section to see what the experts are producing nowadays. Ask any question you need to ask on that board and you will receove a ton of answers. No question is too simple there. There is also a long list of sponsers on that board for ordering supplies. For rod blanks you can't beat the deals on Lamar Fishing. How about bass and popping rod blanks, and these are first run not seconds for $12.
