I wondered why nobody was talking about tarpon since the new message board switched over!! I was on the wrong board! (TTMB, sounds like Texas tarpon to me) Oops, my bad.
Anyway, I had my first hook-up on May 29
Jumped two in June...freshwater really messed with the bait, June sucked.
Jumped one on July 5th about 180#, leadered one about 150#...broke the fly line with her tail.
Had one about 130#-140# break a 5/0 hook after 30 minutes on the 11th.
Hooked three, landed one on the 12th; 105#, length 76", 33 1/4" girth, tagged measured, released (photo below).
On the 13th, eight hook-ups, six jumps, two in the 200 class, none landed, sight cast to three laid up......what a day for a fly rod...it's a drug!
14th...sight cast to four, they nosed the fly but wouldn't open mouths.
two more blow ups, no steel, one about 160# hooked at 5:55 pm.....none landed.
Today...one hooked up, about 70#, broke my backing on a jump!!! :headknock
Two fly lines in two weeks!!!!
TIP OF THE DAY:
A SMALL TARPON IS STILL A BIG FISH!!!!
