Yet again I'm looking for a better hard cooler to replace my IGLOO 94qt coolers. They last about 6 months before the handles and hinges break off and screws strip out. The problem with replacing them is I need something with very close dimensions as the Igloo 94 (see the picture).

Exterior Dimensions of an IGLOO:
  • 34.5" L x 16.75" W x 17.63" H
  • 87.63 cm L x 42.545 cm W x 44.78 cm H

You need somthing roto molded. I have an Engel and the latches are better and easier to use than yetis but any of them are good. Rtic yeti Engel I think academy sells some cheaper ones too. Check them out and go on websites to see which ones fit and how much they cost.

Have you looked at the 94 qt Igloo coolers with stainless steel hardware? Amazon and West Marine sell them. I have a similar situation with size and fit on the boat. Thought about using an Rtic cooler with the closest outer dimensions as my 94 qt Igloo, but the inside dimensions change drastically, like easily fitting a 28” redfish and a bunch of Specs to wondering if a 20” Spec would fit. You could also try changing out the hardware on the one you have. I changed to SS latches a couple years ago.

me.

A Igloo Sportsman 70 is real close to 94 qt dimensions. I use one for a drink & grub cooler under the lean post. If Igloo built a 94 qt Marine with a lid gasket I’d use it instead in a heartbeat. The 128 Marine out in front of the console holds ice better than any supercooler I’ve got.

it seems like there are so many people like me trapped.. Forced to use Igloo junk. I have seat cushions that add weight to the lids and fish with guys who treat them like yetis.

I can tell you that I had a yeti that had a problem and they sent me a brand new one. If your using it for beer stick with the igloo but if you want to hold ice buy the yeti; their customer support is worth the money if something ever goes wrong.

If you need the interior room, I'd make the necessary modifications to make the handles and hinges last longer. There isn't another ice chest that will fit that space as well as the 94 that space was made for. Looking at your setup, you may want to put in rope handles. Maybe even thread some type of cord through to the inside and seal it up. It's a very tight fit where the handles slide into. You will likely have handle issues with any of the above-mentioned coolers.

If your buddies are mishandling your equipment, there is an easy and permanent fix for that. I would not invite anyone back who continually misuses my equipment.

I still have the original 94 on my '05 boat. I never replaced the latch since it faces the console. The latch is a pain to have to unlatch and doesn't need to be latched since there is a fairly heavy seat cushion on it and it opens toward the stern. The hinges were replaced with SS from Igloo back when they first came available. I Set the screws and hinges with 3M 5200 and that fix has been good for many years.

The advantages of the 94 over a more beefy Yeti styled cooler, in my opinion, are this: 1. Empty, I can snatch it one-handed from the ground and put it in storage.
2. People have had Yeti's stolen off of their boat.
3. Your space was made to specifically handle the 94.
4. Interior room of the 94 is more than 20% bigger.
5. Easy to modify.

I like the coleman marine xtreme. The 100 quart is close to your dimensions, $85 online. SS hinges. I have several of the smaller ones that last years for me, Keep ice for 2 days or more, don't cost much and just work. Academy sells them sometimes and so does Walmart. The standard ones (not marine) have plastic hinges in different colors. But you can get the SS hinges at academy or Amazon and replace them.

It never fails someone puts a water bottle down that rolls behind the lid and the next time the lid opens the bottle wedges under the cushion and instead of moving the water bottle they pry up and rip the hinges right off. I do not care about retaining ice for several days I just want a good solid hinge.

Have you even read any of the replies? And now you state you want good hinges? So many people have taken time to give you advice about stainless steel hinges but you haven’t said anything. Lol. Just a story about water bottles breaking them. Lol

I've tried different hinges the screws still strip out of the cheap plastic. I can band-aid the he11 out of it using bolts and big washers until it becomes usable I guess but it's still garbage in my opinion..
