I have a Remington Model 700, .300 Win Mag, S/S. I was directed by a few member here to get a Limbsaver recoil pad for it. Well, I was in BassPro last weekend, and saw a Remington R3 pad, so I picked on up. On the box it says that it is for Remington 700 adl, bdl with synthetic stocks. So I figure all is good.

I get it home, and try to put it on, and it wont fit. It looks a little longer than the original. I figure well, maybe I will have to sand it down or something. Then I compared the holes, and they are even off a little. I guess I could force them in the holes, but I don't want to strip them out.

Im kinda upset. Judging from the box I got the right one. I live 1.5hrs away from BassPro, and I'm not about to drive back just to return this thing. I feel like I wasted $30 bucks.

First off, how do you know if you gun is a "ADL" or "BDL"? Has this terminology always been around? My gun is 10 yrs old, and was given to me as a gift from my grandad when I was 16.

Thanks...
Later.

ADL is the more economical version, it used to come plain with no forecap/less checkering and no sling studs. I do believe it was the same dimensions as the bdl stock though.
There will be a difference between synthetic and wood however.

Sounds like it should have fit according to the label. Remington's web site mentions the R3 pad as an option for the CDL, but not the BDL. Maybe bass pro will let you return it by mail due to the mislabeling? Good luck

Palmetto, I ran into the same problem trying to fit one on my 30.06, I have a Winchester model 70 XTR made in the late 70's. It has a wood stock. I purchased the limb saver which the salesman said would fit my weapon...got home...guess what...holes were different and my stock had a curve in the end that didn't match the new recoil pad. I Took it back. Talked to an older gentlemen(at Carter's) and he told me the problem was the age of my gun. He said if your gun was an older model and had wood stock that there was no consistency in the way manufactures cut the stocks at least not like today's standards. My only options were to have one put on by a gunsmith or use the slip on recoil pad. I don't know how old your gun is. But if it is older weapon, than this is most likely the problem. If your stock is synthetic then I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't fit. I have a Remington 300 win mag 700 BDL with an R3 recoil pad on it, however it is a new weapon and synthetic.

I had the same problem with an old Ruger M77 in .338. According to the template, the pad would fit, but it was 1/8" too long. Sims says you can't trim the custom ones, but I filed the 1/8" off without getting into the rubbber, The old Ruger pad wouldn't fit my other M77 either, so I suspect there is a bit of difference in the same model and age stocks. If you have access to a belt sander, the grind to fit can be done at home.
