Well, I finally found out why they call it Redfish Island. Before friday I had never caught a redfish there before. There were 4 of us on the boat and each one of us caught a nice bull red. 1 at 45", 1 at 40" and very fat, 1 at 38", and 2 at 30". All were released to catch again. Until we hit this spot we had not caught a fish. The 45" red was fighting like I had never seen a bullred do. It was busting the surface of the water several times. It must have ran circles around the boat 4 times. Of course it got caught on the anchor rope at one point. It was definitely a team effort. Oh yeah, all reds caught on live croakers.
Here are a few pics....

BTW, there was no wind at all as you can tell in the pics.

Is Redfish underwater, or is there shell showing? Years ago that used to be my first stop when I would go out. I would alway pick up a couple of keeper reds off the island until the barg accident coverd it in oil.
Be careful around that area when the tankers are coming through. They will kick up 6-10 foot waves there and at Todd's dump. First they will draft water pulling your boat towards them very fast, and then slam you with a water wall. Use a long anchor rope or move when they're coming in low and fast.
