Red Snapper ??? Why isn't anybody talking about the Dead Zone last summer ???
I have been alive for 61 years and lived on the Texas Coast all of my life .
I have seen the good time and the bad times , and last summer was scary , from May though September was tough. Scouted from East Flower Gardens , to Port Aransas . Could it the 4 years no EPA , Agg runoff , Climate Change , Over Fishing , Over Shrimping Please comment .

I would like to see a year long season or at least a season length increase. Or maybe a bag limit increase. I also disagree with commercials owning a public resource. I think Rec should be getting the majority share.

That being said if we're honest red snapper is better than ever.

Im 53 went on my first red snapper trip at around 10 years old. Fished on erything from my Uncles 196? 32' Chris Craft, my 24' cuddy, and now Im a party boat guy. I don't have as much experience as some here.....but if we're honest red snapper fishing is better than it has been in my lifetime.

Ive never experienced the sizes we catch now in large numbers. The last two seasons I didn't keep anything under 28" my largest was 34". And it was very easy to get em.....use a large jig.

This is not new. And unless you have a bunch of guys with a ton of money I dont think you will sway any of these politicians. Follow the money trail. Too many people buy fish that will never catch one. The demand will stay and so will the supply unfortunately for us....

Now that the Grouper stocks have decimated , the buddy show is now outfitting his longline boat with bandit gear , The Western Gulf is under Attack By the Chinese Fishing practice ,What happened to Sustainable Fishing in the United States of America ????
I can second the international fishing going on in the GOM I work on deep sea drilling units and see all kinds of maru- to Chinese and other spanish names on boats fishing off the GOM coast an people have no clue. It may not be illegal but the fishing means is fast as u can load the wagon hundreds of tuna not uncommon. and as for snapper its a pay to play industry. $ controls it all.

Snapper fishing is good these days but it isn't what it used to be. Back in the early to mid 1970's I had a Texas commercial fishing license. Back then a regular fishing license cost $6 and a commercial license cost $15. Anyone could get one. Back in those days me and my fishing buddy could go out the old Shell Buccaneer Field between Freeport and Galveston in 65 feet of water and bring in 100 to 200 lbs of snapper per day. We sold them to the fish market for $2/lb gutted and gilled. That's how I got my spending money and money for college. One year during the fourth of July Fishing Fiesta we caught 800 lbs of snapper at those platforms. Nowadays I can still catch my 2 good snapper per day duriing our shortened season but it is usually a 40-60 mile run.

Recreational fisherman are allowed 1 Warsaw per trip, whether it is overnight or not. A tandem Captain charter, operating more than one day is allowed 2 Warsaw per trip.

As you can see below in this picture (from a long line near the east breaks) that multiple Warsaw were killed from a commercial vessel from a SINGLE trip.
