Man, I was down South this weekend. There are some spots between George West and Freer that have had NO rain for a year. Praseks ranch (the owner of Praseks in Hillje) on the right outside of Geroge West looks like winter time as far as you can see... no green brush anywhere. I can't imagine his feed bill right now for those deer (he is high fenced). Try looking for cows now along the roads, there aint none. All sold or moved off ranches down there in alot of places. It is really sad. Good news is that my uncles place is green green green. He has had some of the rare rain and the red dirt has a noticable difference from the other areas without red dirt.

rain

Our place in McMullen (15 miles southwest of Tilden) has had about 4" in the last two months. We also got a 1/4" on Sunday morning and should get something tomorrow if this low pressure cell moves west. The pasture isn't great, but its not terrible either. For a draught year, it could be worse.

Second the report from TPD on McMullen county. We are just west of 16 off 624 and we did not get any rain from November of last year until just a few weeks ago. Got close to 4" which greened stuff up but we are still way behind. Two ponds had gone completely dry but at least they are wet again. Haven't heard anything from this week but hopeful.

We are approx one and a half miles east of the river between the river and 16. Whenever you drive over the river you will see loads of game, turkey, deer , hogs. Most of the ranches that border the river are high fenced just above the flood plain. Accordingly, the animals that roam the river only have a narrow corridor to travel and are relatively "bunched" up. Our land is not high fenced and so we actually get alot of deer, especially at night, that run up the road and into our property. It is pretty amazing the see the game trail that goes from the side of the road into the corner of our property. And, of course, this means that we also lose game to the road and the river bottoms. Oh well, can't win them all.

Yes, we pass right by the Jesus sign to get to our property. My understanding is he is a preacher out of Austin that occasionally has gatherings there. I have never seen anyone on that piece of property. There is another ranch that separates our property from that piece.

I am just off the intersection of 59 and F.M. 624 between George West and Freer. We only got about a 1/4 of an inch yesterday as most of the storm cells seemed to of missed us. Over the last seven months we have recieved a hair under two inches of rainfall and it has been fourteen months since the last significate rainfall. It looks like winter outside as the only thing that has any green on it are the mesquite trees, everything else is dead.

Since it is too late for hopes of a good horn year I just hope we can get some beore the fawns drop!!
