Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Redford is one of my all time favorites and my favorite scene is when he tells him he can't swim!

a staunch liberal... he thought his highest honor was when nixon had him on 'the list'..... i never held that against him, though... :)

one of the last great hollywood screen actors. we are losing them fast! i saw james garner and clint eastwood on the toob the other day, and they are getting up there as well...

every newman fan has seen most of his more famous movies (hud, cool hand luke, butch cassidy, the sting, etc), but, you may not have seen cat on a hot tin roof (1958) with elizabeth taylor and burl ives. it's a great dramatic movie based on a play by tennessee williams.

newman was nominated for an oscar, and both newman and taylor are great. i highly recommend it. four stars all the way.

Paul Newman

I used to race with/against Paul in the 1970's in SCCA. He was a great driver who probably could have been a good professional if he had started at a younger age. He was always very pleasant to all the other drivers and ALWAYS ready to talk racing. I remember one time at Road Atlanta someone wanted to talk about his movies and he shut the conversation down pronto and told the guy he was there to race and didn't want to talk movies.

His wife, Joanne Woodward, also attended many of the races although it was clear she wasn't crazy about him racing. Nevertheless she was there and supported him completely.

I also remember he was always was ready for a cold Budweiser after the race day and would sit around for hours "bench racing." Although I didn't agree with his politics he never expressed them at the race track and was just one of the guys at the track.
