I've got to tie a knot in that cheap, twisted three-strand yellow nylon rope. It's going to be a permanent knot holding to an anchor. I've already tied a braid at one end with a thimble, but on the other end I'm going to have less than a minute to cut it to length and tie it, and I can't braid this stuff that fast. Plus it's got to be a knot that pulls up tight, can't leave an open loop.

Any help would be much appreciated.

if you are tying it to the anchor, use a bowline

if you mean the free end of the rope, use a figure-eight knot, or just melt the end with a lighter.

Anchor Bend

This knot is used to secure a rope or a line to an anchor. To tie:

1. Pass two loops through ring.
2. Place free end around standing line.
3. Pass free end through loops.
4. Complete by making half hitch.

Less than a minute?? Are you in some kinda contest?
Splicing the line to the anchor is permanent and fool proof, but a bowline is your best knot and can be tied in 5 seconds. It is also very easy to untie the knot.

Anchor Bend is a great knot for rope. I have almost destoyed a hung anchor using that knot. Flukes bent before the knot gave up.

Thanks for the help. The "Anchor Bend" looks like the knot I need. Looks like it will be strong, cinch tight and should hold in that cheap poly rope.

Cat O' Lies, no, not a contest, but the boat will be moving and I won't have the time to do a spliced braid in the rope.
