Five of us fished the surf in Pt. O'Connor Sunday. Wind was NE 5-10 and the surf was absolutely flat. Finshed up about 12:30pm with 50 Specks, 14 Sand trout, and 1 Red. Also, caught lots of small sharks and 7-8 BIG Ladyfish. Mst of the trout were 17"-20" with a few around 23". No real big fish. All in all, it was a good trip. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them developed.

Did the same but...

Made a few stops on the way south Sunday AM. At about 1/4 mile past the Darlington we found em and pretty much got our limits there.

About halfway trough this a green transport pulls right up next to us and starts fishing, except he's too far out to reach the second gut and isn't catching much. He keeps letting out anchor line and finally ends up fishing right on top of my anchor line ! Not 30 feet away but now behind us. He could have (but didn't) cast over us if he wanted too. Instead he just parks there and soaks his bait behind us for an hour.

We get our limits and proceed to put up the bimini and pull out lunch when he ups anchor and pulls right up next to us and ask if we are going to leave. We say, well yes, but right now we are going cool off and eat lunch. He gets all ****** and says "Hope I can do the same to you one day !" and guns it !

Took me a while to even realize he was actualy ****** off but then I realized he though we had the only spot on the whole beach front with fish on it ! Weird part is my buddy came down the beachfront while this jacka$$ is parked on us and anchors up 100 yards away and slays the trout. This guy never moves, and is just waiting on us to move so he can have our "spot".

This guy takes pot licking to a new level !

Unbelievable!

Unbeliveable That is the only word I can think of! Except for a few special spots with washouts, the 2 ond gut runs for miles and miles on the beach front. Peoples' ignorance and rudeness never cease to amaze me! I am afraid my generation didn't beat enought butts and teach their kids to say "please", "thank you", Mr so and so, and "share your toys", for them to be socially acceptable. One of those jerks are like a cloud passing over the sun, on even the most perfect of days!

this year the same scenario is happening to me way to much also. i think most fishermen have let this opressive heat go to thier head. i was fishing cold pass w/ all the places in the world to fish and these 3 guys in a 22' bluewave set up and anchor maybe 10-20yards from me. w/ the current coming in our baits were going right under thier boat. we were just killing time w/ the kids so i didnt really throw a fit and start a argument on the water. but i will say that when i left, if there were any fish around when i cranked the 150 up, there wasnt when i gassed it and left them in a wake.the san luis pass area is full of folks like this. its horrible and only getting worse

I hoping to make it to the surf for the first time this weekend. Can anyone tell me how far down from Pass Cavallo the Darlington is?

We went North towards Matagorda on Sunday. And ironically enough, we had just the opposite experience. When the bite slowed, we would move and we had 2 different boats (we didn't know) flag us down and point to the water next to them, indicating the fish were there. The last guy even held his had apart indicating there were big fish there. We stopped and caught our biggest fish of the day about 100 yards from him.

While I've had just the opposite experience many, many times, I guess there are still a few decent folks out there.

That's how it's supposed to work, but that isn't the norm anymore. I've done the same a few times when I knew it was a specific spot making the difference. One guy was so insistant I though maybe he was signaling for help. Pulled up to him and he wanted to show me exactly where to cast. I was out joy ridding with my Mom and didn't even have a rod. Sure was nice of him though.

Probably 17-20 miles to the Darlington. I don't remember exactly and don't have my GPS with me. But, it's probably half way to Port A or even closer to Port A. Although there is really no need in going that far. I've also heard the average fish has been larger up North lately. Just head north and look for bait. You'll see the boats. We caught fish just a few mile up.

Pay attention to weather if you set out for Darlington

Just make sure you have a good seaworthy boat or a calm day--It can get pretty rough on the seaward side of isle when it blows and the run is a pretty long one if you are idled back riding over large swells or breakers. It is nothing for an offshore boat, but some back bay boats will give you a dicey ride coming back.

Yeah, we won't even attempt it unless there is an offshore flow or it's dead calm and flat.What are others' out there criteria (wind speed, direction, ect) for hitting the surf in a well equipped and powered flats boat.

way back when....while I was attending Victoria Jr. Coll. I worked for McCoys...I also built decks on the side, we once used him and his helper to drill some 30 holes for a deck........and to use their cement mixer. Then I've seen him several other times, in and about Victoria.

it was way back..lol......that deck, had two levels, each one, about 20'x20'......one was around a hot tub, both were covered with lattice.......it was a serious chore, for someone with a semi full time job, going to school full time, and other deck jobs looming on the horizon.......lol.....but very satisfying.......enjoyed it alot......

Born and raised in POC and live in Pearland know.
Galveston Bay is getting like that so we went
a little further South to Seadrift and bought a lot.
Not yet "Discovered"
