Wednesday in Seadrift gas was 1.77 a gallon, Boiled Crawfish in Port O was 3.00 a pound.... Thursday afternoon Gas went to 1.87 and Crawfish jumped to 5.00 a pound.....HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Poco Bueno tournament brings in the rich boys I guess. I have not seen Port O that busy during the week in a long time, looked like Rockport on a holiday weekend yesterday, alot of fine boats though.

Sounds about right. Those businesses used to make their money 3-4 months out of the year and had to survive the rest. As crowded as it gets now I would think they make money more along the lines of 6-8 months a year now. Call the attorney generals office if you think the price is being gouged. or let the locals earn some money while the going is good before the rough months come. Poco has always been a huge week for that town. 500 population to 30,000 over night. Maddens is loving it.

They call it supply and demand

except when it come to oil. I have never understood how the price of oil today can effect the price at the pump today.
1. The oil is not bought
2. The oil is not loaded on boats yet
3. The oil is not been refined or processed
but somehow the gas at the pumps that has all three items met and is paid for somehow jumps in price. It simply does not make sence to me...
If I tried that, I would not have very many customers.

Lets see, Yesterday, I quoted you a price on that computer. I have all the parts in stock. This morning, (Intel, MSI, AT&T, Microsoft or whoever just an example) settled a law suit. So my new increased price will be_______ fill in the blank to some number.

Bill, about the gas

I was told once while I worked at Shell that the gas we are buying at the pump was actually from oil bought approx. 6 months earlier. So yes it does seem silly. My neighbor works in a refinery here locally and we were discussing the prices and he was telling me that his plant made more in 2qtr 04 than it had in any other TOTAL YEAR since the plant was built. Cant nobody convince me they arent knocking down major bucks on this deal.

We get that every year around Memorial Day and the prices stay up until after Labor Day. During the summer the town goes from 12,000 to over 60,000.

Can't complain too much though, the property taxes from the people who do not use the services year-round helps keep the rate down for the rest of us. We have no income nor sales tax, but do have an 8% rooms & meals (motel & restaurant) tax. - Gotta soak them rich flatland pilgrims, don'tcha know. (Plus we have state liquor stores with low prices, and cheap cigarettes near the state borders.) ;)

Ouch Billy,
Makes you think a bit more about filling that boat up for a deep ride, doesn't it. But at least you don't have to go as far out as we do. Think we need to invent an outboard that runs on chum.....Think about it, transportation and a chum line all in one. Okay, okay, I need another blue water fix.

I think a clear cut example

gas prices ALWAYS goes up for the weekend. It might come back down on Monday but the voodoo is on the weekends! And that has nothing to do with the price of oil.

we go far as well

hi gunner
we fish out of cedar key which is on the gulf!
the drop in water is rotten we have to travel on average of 1-1/4 miles per foot of drop this is not a total for sure number but if you look at gps to show natual miles and then look at depth that you are in it could be as much as 1-1/2 miles per foot, we have to be in at least 50 ft to do grouper fishing, aveg day on our boat is 90 to 110 miles, give or take a beer or two???
