Thinking of trying Power Pro line on my Curado 200B5, just wondering what's the best way to spool it. Is a mono backer a necessity, also is a shock leader also required. I was planning on trying the 30#. Appreciate any help.

Is there some place I can get directions for the mono backing. Also is my little Berkley spooling station gonna be able to handle this, or am I gonna have to get creative

I am using 30lb Power Pro on all my reels. I've never used a mono backer and not had any trouble. I always used a swivel and leader with mono but have quit since going to braided line. I don't seem to get much or any twist in this line so I quit using it.

braided line

I have used both power pro and super braid , 30lb . I personally like the stren braid better spools up better . it spools up easier and seems to not bunch up on the spool as much , they will give you directions on the knot to tie with the line .
I use a 6ft floral carbon leader , this has worked well for me . makes fishing with soft plastic a whole new ballgame . plus working topwaters half the work , and better hooksets, it also casts great, just my .02

I use the Mono backing....helps keep it tight on the spool, no leader I tie direct to my jig head, I only use it on my soft plastic rods though. I use my Berkley line winding station, I just press the springs in really tight so it takes a little effort to wind the line onto the spool.

Backing ???

I first used the mono backing, but found that a small piece of tape on the spool
when you tie it on will keep it from slipping while you spool up and it hasn't slipped yet when fighting a fish. I've used the 30# for several years now. I've
had better luck with a vanish leader than without.

I also use a single layer of tape instead of the mono backing, works great for me. I once always used 30# but now I've switched to 20# because I think it cast further, but then again I'm using a spinning reel not a baitcast.

FYI,
A friend and I did several test involving strength of various types of line.
Our findings found that Fire line held the most, then Stealth, then PP.

The tape on the spool can cause the spool to be unbalenced that is why it is a better choice to use the mono backing and unless you use small reels 150yrds wont fill the spool all the way up and this can cause preformance problems also you doont need the backing with 50s & 100s.
