Possible sad news for The Big E for the rest of 2008

Very sad news about the Big E and the rest of 2008. It seems that they may cancel the remainder of their trips for the rest of the year.

I hope that they regroup and start up again in 2009. The service level of the deckhands, captain and front office has been outstanding. On the TBB '08 the deckhands loaded all of my gear, ice chests and bags from the truck to the boat and even upstairs to the upper deck. I didn't have to lift a finger. Now that is great service!

I have caught numerous fish on the Big E and have a load of memories that I will never forget. I tip my hat to the entire organization and hope that I have the privilege of fishing on their platform again in the future.

Thanks again to all of the individuals associated with The Big E and Underwater Expeditions. You have been a very classy act.

Well hopefully one day you will have friends that you care about how they are treated. I found myself with friends on both sides of this one. In this case you are right, the business relationship did take care of itself, for better or worse.
right on! seen a lot of fair weather friends on a few of the boards.... lets ya know who would have your back if the shiet hit the fan.

LONG LIVE SNAGGED!

Now the Lady Anna is a crewboat turned partyboat...but the Big E was specially designed and built for long range fishing by Elliott Cundiff. I worked Muchowich Partyboats as a young kid in the mid-70's, Elliott was captain of a boat named Bearcat, and the LadyAnna was taking charters back then, run by a captain with the first name Hershel I think. Hard to believe after all those years the Lady Anna is still grinding them out.

Anyone ever take a trip on the Texsun with Captain Ted?
Say it isn't so! I hope this is just a bad rumor I don't think I can go that long without catching some tunas. I don't own a boat like many others on this board that is all we have to get us out there and it is a very nice boat for that purpose. I know that many people on this board will not have a nice comfortable boat to fish from if this happens. sad2sm

Don't expect the Big E back for 09. I've 'heard' she will be turned into a work boat. There's going to be a huge gap for party boats on our coast.
I will also miss the Big E . Scheduled for my 5th trip 3-5 Oct. Called them today. Confirmed "all fishing trips for the rest of 2008 are cancled . Might call us after the holidays in 2009 , but don't know". Took info to refund .
O well, still have other options in Pt A.

Unfortunetly I've heard the Big E will be on her way to LA for her retrofit as soon as this weekend. I too will miss the comfortable fast fishing platform.
Unfortunatly you cant really blame them. I took some crewboat guys fishing and from my understanding a 190 foot supply boat gets around 20,000 a day PLUS FUEL to operate for the oil rigs and they are contracted out 365 days per year.

I wish I could turn my boat into a crew boat LOL
eddie
i am sure it might be cheaper for them to let you run their crews out to the rigs. it cost quite a bit the fly the crews out on helicopters. however the helicopters don't need calm seas to make the trip. i hope that your bookings have picked up due to this shortage of tuna boats on the upper texas coast. ....rick
Just goes to show that if you mess with someone on 2 Cool you better have a backup buisness plan.

Well put Mr. Jim Smarr, and thanks again for all your help and info on our Snap. situation!

Been on the Texsun a time or two. Used to go out on the Nina Ruth that was docked next to it when I was a kid. Captain Fred was good friends with my dad.
Pilar- My daughter is taking radiation for BC. I still have time to weigh in for a friend. Thanks for the push for slack but I can weather it as I have Alligator hide. LOL

I used to be chastised as the Alligator shoe wearing, Mercedes driving, Cigar chewing Lobbyist in the old days by a few. Not much has changed. All that matters in the end is Texas fishing will the best in the Gulf of Mexico. I hope to play a small role in making that happen with the TGBR Reefing team. Reefman will be deploying some for us in the future to honor Jack Cowan.
