I have been invited to fish a tournament in Port O'conner in July and I have never fished that bay. I have a 21 ft. Triton center console and i have heard that this bay is very shallow. Can anyone give some sound advice as to where i might be able to run this boat and whether or not this bay is well marked? I am used to shallow water fishing because i spend most of my time on the North end of Trinity Bay. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

If you're fishing in a tournament in July at POC, I'd fish the jetties or in the surf. If you fish Matagorda Bay, fish the east shoreline but be careful when you get near the pass or the area between Matagorda Bay and Espiritu. If you fish Espiritu, enter thru the Ferry cut and fish the west shoreline if the winds permits, otherwise fish the east shoreline. Drive real slow if you get near Grass Island, Farwell, Lighthouse, Bar Room, Bill Day's Reef, etc. unless you know where you're going. Don't even think about San Antonio Bay if you haven't been there before. Good luck

Pick up one of the Hot Spot maps from any Academy, or FTU. Matagorda averages about 11ft, and is deeper than most of the upper bays. But, there are reefs and bars, some in mid bay. You can run directly from the small jetties to the big jetties without worry. You can also cruise the south shoreline if you stay a couple hundred yards off the shore until you get to Decros point where there is a fairly narrow channel. Beware of the Middle Grounds in mid bay, luckily it is mostly sand and mud and not shell. BillS
