I am heading down to Port A to fish next weekend. I try to make it down there 2 - 3 times a summer. Since this is mostly a famlity trip my fishing will be contricted to 4 hours in the morning and whatever time i ma lucky enough to get before the sun goes down. I throw topwaters to start off the day but have never really had the luck. I know they work from what I have read and heard but should I use them at first light and possibly miss out on strikes with my soft plastics? Anybody have any adice? Will probably spend a good portion of my time on the flats behind Traylor.

Topwater lures take a fair degree of commitment and a strong belief that they will work (they will) Tie one on and stay at it for 30 honest minutes. If you have had no luck and honestly think you are in an area holding fish try other baits. IMO

Take a small, speck pattern Skitterwalk, my new favorite. If topwaters don't work in 30 minutes, try a D.O.A. shrimp or a Tequila Gold Norton Bull Minnow. Good luck!
