Penn Battle 3000 Line Question??

I am wanting to buy my first spinning reel and decided on a Penn Battle 3000. I fish the LA jetties mostly for sheep head, trout, drum, and reds and use 15lb mono. Can I put 15lb mono on the Battle 3000? How is the cranking power on these reels, don't want to have to work like crazy to get in a decent sized fish?

While fishing the jetties for sheep head we get hung up all the time and have to break our lines. Been thinking about trying braid but wondering how easy it will be to break our lines when we get hung up? Any suggestions on braid and line size?

I have 2 of the Battle II 2500’s and run 30lb braid on them. It’s roughly the same diameter as 12-15lb mono and the heavier braid helps against wind knots. I run 20lb fluoro or mono leaders with it. Works pretty well. I think you’ll find most on here are running something similar to that. I might be a little heavy on my braid for that reel, but the benefits already listed are worth it. You’d be just fine with your 3000 set up this way.

The heavier braid (read thicker dia) also helps with the line digging into itself with tight drags and big fish.

Got the Penn Battle and use 30lb braid. The power pro std brand. Works fantastic. Just switched to braid a year ago and wish I had 15yrs ago. I use a 14lb mono leader about 3ft long. Use a uni-unit knot to tie braid to mono. Never had one slip yet.
The little knot goes thru the line guides great and does not affect casting.
Go with the braid.
