The folks that don't wear helmets will argue that they can see and hear better. Personally, I don't ride without a full coverage DOT approved helmet, steel toe leather boots and long jeans. I sure as heck wouldn't be standing on a seat either. But to each their own. He died doing what he loved, and that's more than most of us get to do.
