I've been to the chain parts stores looking for plugs and wires for a crusader 454 and they can't look it up on the computer. Are the numbers the same as a truck 454?

Be very careful. As per Dary Gatewood @ Gatewood marine. Marine parts are for the most part are like flashlights in a refinery. They are sparkproof so as to not cause an explosion in the engine room. Please call him and talk with him before doing something you will regret or your family. Gatewoods 1-361-727-9787

price double when marine

I has a 262 GM motor in a mercruiser. When the starter went out the Marine starter was 280 but a good ole GM starter ran me 65. So yes the parts are the same except for that magic word MARINE!!!!

Please be carefull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm no expert but I did learn in my MSEO course that marine electrical componets are different than automotive. The alternators and starters are manufactured to different specifications due to the gas vapors in the bilge. Something about a spark!!!!!!!

I'll see if I can locate my literature and post up.

yep our boat has/had two 454s, some gm numbers. More money if they know they are for a yacht.
I should have beem more specific. Only certain parts due to safety reasons. Buy lots at Palmer Power over off Long Drive and at AER in Seabrook.

There are more differences than price when it comes to 'marine' parts.
The magic words when it comes to marine electrical parts is "Ignition protected" Marine alts and starters will not cause a spark/ignition source as will auto parts.
Marine engine mounted gas fuel pumps will not leak gas when they fail like automotive pumps will.
Marine carbs are made so as not to spill fuel should they flood unlike auto carbs.
