This is my first time to post on this site, as I had been posting on another site and all it had was name-callers and complainers. I've read this site for sometime now and it seems like pretty good site.
I left out of Port O this morning just after daylight and couldn't decide where to go since it's been a month since I've fished. I finally made the decision to go into Matagorda Bay and fish the hump. I started waded with a blue/chrome she dog, after about 10 cast, I finally caught a 23" trout. I continued with the top h2o for about another hour and caught 3 more trout from 16" to 19". I then switched to a plum/chart. bass assassin and finished my limit by 11:00, these trout were bigger from 19" to 22". I also had 5 reds but they were released.
Not a bad day since I never had to move the boat. Vibrio must have everyone concerned because I don't think that I have every seen that many people drift fishing. I didn't see too many that were wading!

be careful on the hump. an acquaintance of mine lost 3 trout in one bite to a 7 ft bull on the true hump. we stayed up real close to the shoreline in that same area and found some good trout to 25" a few weeks back. lots of reds sighted but only landed 3 and jsut 1 of those kept.

What I've always done is go out of the small jetties and head towards Pass Cavallo (sp.), you will run right across it. I use my depth finder and get out where I can. It will be between the small jetties and the old coast guard sta. cut.
And you're right about the sharks, I was lucky not to see any today but have had problems with small black tips out there before. Never seen anything too big, thank god!!

humpity hump

Have fished the hump many times in the past year. Knock on wood(my head), haven't had any run ins with sharks. However, the last time we were there, my buddy had a porpoise try to take his trout off of his stringer right at the boat. But, have also fished right up against the shoreline between Pass Cavallo and the big jetties and have seen many sharks there. Once again, knock on wood(yeah, still the head), no close calls. Watch out for those suckers. Seems like they have been very prevalent in the POC and Matagorda areas the last two years.
