A friend and I went out about 15 miles from San Luis Pass on Sunday to the 4 pile platform in the picture. Started kind of slow with undersized ling and snapper, but then the king fish showed up around mid day and we caught our two man limit. The kings were hitting blue rapala magnums, and I even sight casted to three kings that were finning on the top of the water near the rig, catching a 10 lb'er on a Kastmaster spoon and a trout rod.
The 3' sharks were thick too, and that got old after about 10 of them. I've noticed June always seems to be shark month out there. What a beautiful day though, as the picture shows, glassy seas less than a foot. We ran home full cruising speed, but had to veer around a kayak at San Luis Pass. I recommend bright orange kayaks to my friends, the olive drab kayak out of SLP was almost invisible until we got close. Anyway, this weekend's weather was as good as it gets, as you can see in the picture. My Aggie buddy had a grin on his face too.
