Leaving tomorrow heading to Marathon Key Florida to partake of the local fishing and lobster diving for 9 days. Taking Game On! with me and hope to have several good days of fishing, diving and relaxing. Man it's going to be nice with only a 3 mile run to the reef and 10 to DEEP water. Hope to bring back good reports.

Fishing Marathon

We vacationed several times in that area (Duck Key) during the early lobster season. Be sure to have a dive flag when lobstering and read lobster rules. They are very strict in enforcing.

We fished the marathon lump several times and had good success on blackfin tuna. The run was only 25 miles. Where the strong current hits the mound there is a 1/2 mile area that slicks off. It may be choppy around the mound but smooth ripping current on top. Kind of neat. Also if fishing for dolphin we found that you could eventually locate them on the weed lines by trolling but had much better success stopping and looking for frigates. I'm sure you know the bird (kind of "w"shaped wing configuration) anyway they were the best indicator of hot action if circling in one location. Binoculars help. Most of the dolphin we caught were 3-20# however they catch many in the 30#+ range.
