New to Matagorda Area

I am very sorry to see all the loss caused by IKE.

Was planning to go to Bolivar in the next few weeks, but sadly now have to find a new area.

I have been looking at the Matagorda area. I am looking for a place to fish off the bank or wade just about knee deep. I am thinking of staying on Beach Front Dr. and just surf fish.

Any suggestions of where to fish - Gulf, River, Bays? Easy to get to places?

I am somewhat a novice, but use to fish a little 40 years ago.

Where to stay and eat. do I have to use a Guide?

Any help would be appreciated.
