I was just wondering if there was a better moon to fish or not to fish? It never made a big difference offshore but I noticed alot of talk when it comes to bay and surf fishing. Id like to go down and camp and fish during a full moon (27 October) .......well just cause it makes for good pictures and I figured the girlfriend would enjoy it more. Well guys and girl lets hear you opinion on this as Im sure the banks of knowlage here will overflow with good info. Thanks........later,Dave

I have a few spots that seem to be better around the full moon but not sure if that's just because the fishing is better then or just those spots are good on a full moon??? I promise there are some on this board who sware by moon phases....

I personally have caught more fish during the full moon cycle, then the new moon cycle. I don't know why, it just seems like I get more aggressive bites during that week of the full moon.

ok... let's see how short i can keep what i think i know. moon phase can be important, but rise and set are more important. for example, a new moon with a rise at sunset or close, and a set at sunrise, can be a big influencer for morning and evening bites. a full moon that's out all night can kill fishing during the day, provided other conditions are right(no clouds, wind). but if it's cloudy all night and sets around 8:am can make for a killer morning bite. now a full moon that rises in the middle night and set during the day...

nevermind... too long already.

Boat Money is on the right track, I put much faith in catchin' during the major and minor feeding periods. Less intellegent animals like fish & deer have a tendency to feed more aggressively during these times. Tides are more agressive during the moon cycles, you can count on higher during full and lower during new. Incoming tides normally peak at sunrise on new and outgoing the same during full. Put the tide with sunrise or sunset and the fish will almost jump in the boat. During the full/new period the best feeding times will be between 1.5 hours before and after noon & midnight and then again approximately six hours later (minor phase on full/major on new...when the moon is directly overhead or below the earth). Of course there are variances according to the daylight savings time and the amount of available daylight.
Many times when on the water I scout for bait and fish activity when the bite is slow. When I locate a likely spot, before the major or minor periods, I'll camp out an hour before the bite begins and fish the area for an additional hour after the bite slows.

The best way to get on track with the moon cycles is to get an almanac with moon rise and set noted. You can time your catchin' or killing accordingly. This is not an exact science, but I've turned many slow days into good days by paying attention to my watch.
