[Bull Minnow]

Hello to all, I am new to the Forum and I just wanted to give a fishing report from this past Saturday. Myself and 3 buddies tried to start out before sunrise at the seawall but quickly discovered that it was too rough and dirty. Got back to the truck and headed to Freeport. Got in the surf around 6:45 and we were out by 7 due to waves were crashing all over us. Headed back across to West Bay and managed to get 1 keeper flounder. While there, the wind seemed to shift from the North so we decided to head back to the seawall hoping it had laid down and greened up. Got there around 9 am and stayed for 30 min without a bite(still dirty). Got back in the truck and headed BACK to Jamaica beach where we saw the "trout green" water. Got in around 10 am and on the first casts, 2 of my buddies were hooked up. We ended the day there at 1:30 with 24 trout to 20". Lost several as well as plenty of throwbacks. Fooled them with Norton Lures in the Tequila Gold/Chartreuse color. Hope to get back at em' ASAP!! Tight Lines to all.

Nice first report and a good catch to boot. Too bad you had to burn so much gas but the result was certainly worth it. Are those Nortons tequila on top and chartreuse on the bottom or chartreuse tails? Jamaica Beach is my home beach but wouldn't you know I'd be in San Antonio for the weekend! Keep the reports coming and again welcome, there are a lot of great people on this board.

Thanks for the welcome Kenny. I have been cruising the site for about 2 weeks and really like that everyone posts good or bad reports. Yes the gas burning was definitely worth the payoff. My brother actually limited out in the surf last Tuesday so I was going to fish the surf no matter how much driving I had to do. The Nortons were the Chartreuse tails (sand eel jr's and bull minnows). As far as you being in San Antonio, isn't that usually when the fishing turns on (when you can't make it)? Again thanks for the welcome. I will be posting reports as often as I can fish.

sup guys. im new also.

jamaica beach is where i call home also (my parents live there). im new to fishing in the bay and im about to go crazy trying to figure it out.

i, along with 3 buddies, was out on saturday the 19th and we all struck out swinging. we started off around 6:30am just to the east of the canals where the big geo-tube is (whatever you call it) and didn't even get a bite off of live shrimp and plastics. then we made our way to green's lake and managed to catch a couple of nickle sized specs and a few oyster shells. after about 2 hours of floating around in green's lake we headed to that canal about 1/2 mile west of where we were. we saw a lot of reds toping all over the place, but we just couldn't land one (still using live shrimp and plastics of all colors). on our way out of the canal we saw some huge splashes so we stoped and threw out our lines. turns out we caugh a couple more nickle sized specs and the huge splashes ended up being 5ft alligator gars. i've never seen them splashing around like they were, they were literaly coming a foot or so out of the water. it's mid afternoon now and it's pretty darn hot so we headed home and stoped at the big poles near the reef. spending about 45min there and no bites made it strike 3.

bye the way, what was up with the water that day? i have never seen it so calm. it looked like a lake out there.

well, im excited to have been turned on to this website and i think that i can learn alot from all of you guys.

so its true then, there are gars in the bays. one co-worker told me he was out in Galveston Bay a few years ago and they hooked a huge gar, he said it was about 8ft long, fought it for a long time but finally broke his line.

A few weeks ago I caught a 19.5" speck using a spec rig in our canal at Terramar. Hooked him off the top porch on my lightest spinning reel. He wanted to head under the lower pier a few times and I finally landed him (no net) on the yard. Had so much fun, I threw him back to get bigger.

We have the underwater green lights. The next night we saw a 6' alligator gar float through the middle of one of the green lights. He was huge.

yeah, lots of gars!!! last summer my old man an i spotted a 5' gar floating around our boat slip in the canals in jamaica beach. it was sick or something....it would wiggle its way to the bottom of the canal and then float back up to the top. dang, that sure was an ugly sucker! stunk too! we left it alone and let mother nature finish what she started. the neighboors found it upside down a couple days later at the butt of the canal and trashed it.

We saw one last year in East Bay

Welcome aboard guys. They are pretty common around here. We see them in upper Trinity all the time. Big uns hang around the spillway. I had one crush a bone jumping minnow at the mouth of the trinity river a few years ago too. Last year we saw one on the south shoreline of east bay in Big Pasture Bayou that must have went 6ft. It came up and rolled right by the boat. They sure will get your attention.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum myself. Yes there is a bunch of gars in the bay but what shocked me the most last year a friend and I were wading about three miles past San Luis pass on access road 6 when a huge Gar came up about 3FT from me. Yes I was a little worried about being in the water with this huge gar but then realized he was just cruisin along and didn't want to do any harm.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum also and I enjoy reading all your reports. I fish the Galveston area and occasionally Baffin Bay. A couple of buddies and I did ok last Friday in Baffin caught 23 specks on Top Dawgs and plastics. The wind picked up around lunch and fish stop biting but the beer never stopped.
