Some people say these types of boats are likely to swap ends on you, but others say it's due to driver error. Whatever the reason it does happen, so be careful.

Now that that is out of the way, another one I like along the same lines is the JH made down in Freeport. They've gotten some good run as a second runner up to the Mowdy's. You can check them out at www.jhperformanceboats.com

New Boat

David Rowsey has a JH Performance for sale. It is one or two years old and has been very well taken care of. I won't go so far to say David is anal, but he is a meticulous perfectionist when it comes to taking care of things.

Pope, you can get a 21v destiny for pretty darn cheap. Its the same basic hull design as explorer. I had a shoalwater 17v a long time ago, and it will spin on you just like any other shallow running bay boat if the motor is high enough. It will dart a little to the side riding the backside of waves but just hold on to the wheel, slow down, and pay attention and youll be fine. I had my tunnel V in some nasty chop. They ride well. You are on the right track with Explorer, Shoalwater and Destiny. IMO JH needs a better tunnel. The ones I have seen really dont have any tunnel at all. That was a few years ago and they may have changed. Good luck!

Don't have any experience in the others mentioned but I absolutely love my 22' Mowdy. I plan on my boys (5 and 2) growing up fishing on it. I compare its ride to my dad's deep V Mako I grew up fishing out of- nice, dry and solid. I found a used 2000 model. Check www.mowdyboats.com. Clark Mowdy also posts all his customers used boats for sale on his website.
