I haven't had luck in years. I was wondering if anybody could give me any info on some great fishing spots. I do most of my fishing on piers and don't have a boat. Freeport, Galveston, Kemah, Surfside, anything???

I usually go to that huge pier in Galveston on the seawall and to San Luis Pass.

Any help and advice greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

Also, I live in Houston. How do I get to Roll Over Pass from here?

Have you ever considered fishing the beachfront? Anywhere you can find access to the water should do. Right now is the time to go because everything is "in place". By that I mean conditions couldn't be any better than they are right now. Look for diving birds, seagulls and pelicans. Also look for pods of bait acting nervous. Find one or both of these and you will catch something. Live bait is sure to fill your stringer as well as artificial baits of all kinds.

Rollover Pas is on the Boliver Peninsula. You have to go around thru Winnie or Galveston. Going thru Galveston you have to deal with the crowds at the ferry boats. Winnie might be further but shorter in time.

Hiya

I m kinda new to the fishing thing myself, but the idea that galveston is "dirty" is more of an urban legend than fact.

The waters in galveston are easily muddied(is that a word?) up during windy days because of the loose dirt and junk off the bottom of the gulf.
The seaweed that washes up doesn't help either, but i think that's more seasonal than a constant.

That's why people go bonkers when in the surf is calm and there is little-to-no wind, it settles the dirt and brings in that nice green color, resulting in more fish!

Of course, you can't ignore the fact that it may be polluted because of all the refineries in our area, but I think it's chemically-based (no-color) as opposed to just oil floating in the gulf.

Maybe others more educated in that area can contribute, but I don't think there's been an oil spill in our gulf in the last 20-30 years, if not longer.

This is all, of course, my humble opinon and observation.
