Tuesday night in SLP, everyone was catching specs but me. I was using various rigs, artificials, and dead shrimp. Couldnt get any.

Whats the trick?
What bait do they go for?
Hooks?

what you need is some live shrimp. At least that's what I've been catching mine on. I use a medium popping cork with my line about 3 feet under. You should try to get a red or chartreuse bead to put above a bleeding red hook. i think it's Mustad that sells the red hooks. Forget lures because trout can never resist a live shrimp. it's fun watching your shrimp jump out of the water and as soon as it hits the water again it's breakfast or dinner for a keeper trout. good luck.

re: live shrimp

How do you hook your live shrimp? We make it down there once or twice a year (hoping to increase this) but we always get back to the issue of the best way to bait the hook when using shrimp. What keeps them on the hook the longest?

I thought the black spot was vitals, that if you pierded it the shrimp would cease living and be fresh dead.

I just go under the horn and in front of any obvious spots. One of 'em is a brain, so I figured I'd not kill 'em.
I always hook em' under the horn infront of the black thing..

d pat. Keep your terminal tackle (swivels, snaps, leader material etc..) subtle especially if your fishing under the lights. Most of the live bait masters I know actually free shrimp their baits (hook tied directly onto main line with no weight, cork or leader material) they do this no matter the bait If your using artificials go small
