Southern stingrays, our most popular species around the texas coast are not the same as a cownose.
Cownose dont settle on the bottom like the southern ray does.
They are almost always moving (like flying) through the water like a manta, or eagle (spotted) ray.
But unlike the manta, the cownose has a barb like a bottom ray.
We also have a species that is very much like the southern ray called the rough tailed ( I think thats the name) ray.
They look almost identical to the southern, but have a very rough tail with small (almost tiny) spines sticking up all over the top, as well as a barb. They get giant as well.
Cownose dont get much over 30 lbs.
