Nice. Your pointed in the right direction for sure. There are some on the TPF that is doing a focus stacking. Pretty cool. You take several shots focued on different parts of the subject, them stack them in PS. The outcome is the whole subject is in focus.
If you are interested in some tips here they are..if not disregard of course...
If your camera has a preview button where you can see your depth of field before the shot it will be your best friend with macro...
Always shoot on a tripod when doing macro which leads into ...when shooting macro your depth of field has a shallow range so don't skimp on the aperture for light...you can end up with a line of focus through your image...
That is neat shot...if you shoot it again close your aperture down and the penny will be in focus also....
