Dude, you're in Conroe, TX. You are unlikely to see anything, even if it was a Cat 5. Less drama, please. Do you really need to break out the "Planet of the Apes" theme song???FlakMan said:Make your own choices for your family - we have made ours. We have a full capacity back-up generator with food, water, ammo and medical supplies to last as long as needed. Our home is 75 miles inland on high ground. It is a hipped roofed single story building with high wind load strength. We are staying put!
I heard that was a "special needs" evacuation. Did you hear if it has been upgraded to everyone?CajunBob said:Surfside and Quintina are being told to leave starting at 10:00 am Good luck and God Bless. (979) 415-4739
I think that this is the problem with people, they are not taking this storm serious enough! I live in Matagorda County, close to Palacios and we have already made plans to get out!John Galt said:Dude, you're in Conroe, TX. You are unlikely to see anything, even if it was a Cat 5. I think the problem with people is, some people are not taking it seriously enough, but many others, who live in the safe zone, are taking it too seriously. Flakman, that was not directed at you, but was directed at all the bozos from the Woodlands and Kingwood who panic evacuated Rita and contributed to the traffic jams and lack of gasoline.Dolphingirl said:I think that this is the problem with people, they are not taking this storm serious enough! Talk about Drama...he didnt say a word about evacuating or clogging up traffic. Geez.John Galt said:I think the problem with people is, some people are not taking it seriously enough, but many others, who live in the safe zone, are taking it too seriously. This "Better safe than sorry" mindset sounds good in THEORY, but if you live North of Loop 610, it's bad in practice because when you clog up the freeways, you are trapping your neighbors who ACTUALLY DO need to evacuate on the freeways.
Please see the attached map if you want to see who really needs to evacuate. Even Downtown and The Galleria do not need to evacuate even a Cat 5.

Dude, if you had been in my house, in Conroe, in 83 when Alicia came through you would not feel that way at all! The wind and storm was bad enough and we were out of power for 3 weeks.John Galt said:Dude, you're in Conroe, TX. You are unlikely to see anything, even if it was a Cat 5. Less drama, please. We evecuated from Lake Jackson for Alicia to my uncles house in Spring where we had 100+ MPH winds and had 3 large trees fall on the house forcing us to move to a cousins house mid storm. Alicia was a minimal cat 3 storm a cat 5 would be much worse.bboswell said:Dude, if you had been in my house, in Conroe, in 83 when Alicia came through you would not feel that way at all! TXDOT hosed up the evac not the people evacuating.

You got it - Roundman. My 80 year old uncle will be staying with us. He does not need to be in Port Lavaca for this storm and sure does not need for me to loose power because of some pine limb falling on a power line. Folks should remember that power is still out in Baton Rouge for many folks from a hit from a smaller storm (Gustov). Baton Rouge is 20 miles further inland than Conroe. My generator will keep us, our beer and food - cool! My family and friends will be far safer and more comfortable with me than sitting in thier blown out powerless homes near the bay.roundman said:i think he's just talking about his realtives that are on the coast coming to his house and he has everthing they need to stay with him comfortably
That gives me a thought...I wonder if I should evacuate the family to the deer lease...FlakMan said:You got it - Roundman. My 80 year old uncle will be staying with us.
