When I troll for mahi, I always put out two Ilanders far back and two bird rigs, one big one little close in. The total action from this spread seems to get them to come out well. If you stop at a weed patch and have all the little chickens around the boat hitting everything you throw out, you won't be ready when a bull comes through, so troll first. This week, they liked the blue Ilander with a greenish tint to the tail best, but action seemed more important than color. Speed also made a difference. If no hits, go faster or slower. No wire leaders. Really any kind of surface jet type head will work, but do it early in the day before it gets too hot.
