My boss is staying near Jones Stadium this weekend for a conference and was asking me about some places to eat. I haven't been there in 5 years but was hoping some 2coolers can give me some ideas to pass on.

I loved to eat at Jazz, and drink lots of not cold enough beer(it went down faster, learned that the hard way, lol). They have a dish called ****-*** Chicken, a twin chicken breast fried, served on dirty rice, topped with a cajun topping full of crab and crawfish and oysters, served with steamed veggies with lots of garlic and onions. The chef was a about 400 lbs. if he was a pound and from Louisiana, heard he got shot many years back and is no longer cooking their. I remember it so well because it was THAT GOOD. Everyone I took there loved it, and asked to go there when they came in town to hunt. It was one of the best plates of food I have ever had. Man I miss that, lol.

Crickets was the beer place right? Right near where On Broadway was I think. They had like 100 beers on tap, I liked it for that reason.

Spanky's was good, the fried cheese was their best item, health food for sure.

There are a few really good places to eat depending on price, type, etc.

Manna Bread & Wine - Located in Cactus Alley
- Small and great food (my favorite is the Pecan/Elk stuffed pork tenderloin)

Frenchman Inn - Located at 19th & Quaker
- BYOB Classic French... 77yr. old chef/owner
- Been there for 20 years & runs specials every Friday/Saturday
- One of my favorite places!!!

Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse - Located at 112th & Quaker (Used to be Firewater)
- Great Steaks!!

Home Plate Diner on either 34th or 50th. Been almost 10 years since I left there. Chicken fried steak is awesome. Used to be several decent places to eat in the Depot district. East of Ave. Q, there are some good home style places as well. TX Land and Cattle is not that great IMO. Cattle Baron was ok. I wish I could remember the name of that BBQ place in the Depot district on 19th street. It was very good.
