I did my annual maintenance today on my 2010 Yamaha F250 and when I drained the gear oil from my lower unit, I didn’t get very much out and it was really dark. I pumped in about a half a quart, and drained it again. When I filled the lower unit, it took less than a quart. Any ideas? I had about 120 hours since my last maintenance., a fair amount of that idling in the Gulf.

Did you take off the fill screw at the top when you drained? Needs to get air in top so fluid can drain out bottom

Yes, I did. I was rather surprised when I removed the upper screw and I didn’t get the steady flow of oil out of the bottom, it was more like a dribble
