I am getting the same thing. The chlorophyl page has been pretty unreliable all week too. The sea-temp page and chlorophyl page seem to be obscured by clouds or some other malady more often then not. I did check the archives and there is plenty to go on from yesterday on the sea-temp page.
Our Mac G5 server went down earlier this week which has been causing havoc with the altimetry and chloro imagery. We are repairing that in addition to buying a new one as backup. Should be back to normal soon.
The latest sea temp image swath was not fully accepted, thus half-black...it happens sometimes with the satellites.
For those of you considering the long run to Alaminos Canyon, you may want to re-consider as the Stena Tay and Discoverer Spirit have both moved! Stena Tay is enroute to Africa, and Discoverer Spirit is 1 mile south of Mars.
