Length of stringer?

I want to use a stringer while wading the surf. The longest they have at Academy is 9 feet. Is this adequate enough to keep the fish a safe enough distance away in case some creature attempts to rob me? Haha. I wanted at least 15 feet. Guess I could tie two together but that would be a hassle when stringing new fish. What do you think?

Ok thanks for the responses. I can’t get to FTU or any other place before Sunday(I’m in Conroe). My second option was the floating cage but I’m just too far north for saltwater gear. All we have is mostly freshwater stuff. Anyway thanks again. Will figure something out.

I never go in until it meets my in person inspection standards. You may very well be correct but only one way to find out for sure. So far according to my usual sources its not great but not horrible.

I have alternatives and more importantly I am prepared to just hang out if its totally hopeless for the bay spots too. I need at least a half a day to clear my head and see the ocean, walk the beach and that is always primary anyway. I never regret the trip down and especially not canceling the fishing if I am faced with a stormy surf. Nothing worse that have to change out of salty wet clothes with nothing but misery to show for it. Haha. I certainly appreciate the heads up though.

They still do, I think that's where the screen grab came from. At least that's the same price Academy lists them for anyway.

At $25, I'm thinking of picking one up, and I don't really wade that much. Might be a nice alternative if my livewell or bait bucket craps out... and useful when I get more into wading.

A friend of mine basically drilled holes in a rubbermaid container and zip tied a pool noodle around it to make it float. I can't remember exactly how he modified the top but somehow it hinged up so you didn't have to take it off to put the fish in and risk them just jumping out. He also had a small tackle box on it also.
