under the circumstances, i think it's a good idea. Mexico can't control the drug trade any more than the US can control it. why spend vast resources prosecuting the casual user when the money could be spent on going for the producers/manfrs/distributors. i'm not condoning it, just understand the rationale.

 

I'm certainly not for it, but I do see one positive factor, those crooked mexican cops will have one less reason to black mail someone from going to the pokey if its not illegal. However, it seems legalizing it will only strengthen the drug cartels resolve to get their product to its consumer.

crooked cops will blackmail people for any reason they can dream up...

by legalizing small amounts, the price goes down - which really puts a hurtin' on the cartels.

mexico didn't legalize drugs. they decriminalized very small amounts. big difference. if washington was occupied by thinkers instead of just politicians, we would do this, too.

Legalize it all & watch the dopers die off & gangs go broke. Problem solved but a new one is created. What will we do with all the out of work police officers?
