Sunday my son (Tim) and I hit christmas bay about 7 a.m.. The water was perfect and we were launching with high hopes. We searched and searched and finally about 9 we were drifting inbetween cold pass and ernies bait camp and boat ramp in front of a little bright orange house on the south shore line. All of a sudden the water started getting nervous and bait was all around the boat. I was throwing a black/chrome top dog when it got sucked under. No big splash and I didn't think much of it because the fish was coming to the boat with ease. Then she surfaced and immediately my deckhand grabed the net and scooped her up like a pro. A 26" trout hit the deck and we were high fiving. Picked up one more keeper 16" and threw back a couple dinks and it was over. Switched to a plastic shrimp and pulled in a 19" flounder. Now I know a 26" trout ain't exactly huge but it is my new personal best and a lot bigger than most fish I catch around christmas and west bay. Tim didn't catch a fish but I gotta tell ya it's the first time in over 3 months that he let me outfish him. LOL
We got out of the water and ran home because the day was only going to get better because Tim's select baseball team had a tournament championship game that evening. So after a good nap we headed to the ballpark and the guys played unbelievably well and won the tournament. My buddy will post some pictures of the fish and Tim with his trophy. This day will be in the ole memory bank for many moons to come.

Fishin in the mornin and Baseball in the evening. Just don't get no better!!!

Thanks Woody for puttin the pictures on here.

Good job Cornhusker,
and a real nice fish at 26". I haven't seen one of those in a while around here. We need all the new sportsmen we can get and I'm sure Tim won't forget the lessons he's learning now. He's a lucky young man!
Wish I could still fish with my Dad.

Thanks guys!!

Thanks guys for the replies. Kenny I'm the lucky one, Tim is a great kid. Makes excellent grades, listens to people "for the most part" ,says sir and mam, and always looks out for his 2 older sisters. He was in a deer stand at 1.5 yrs old and caught his first fish at 2. The way I figure the way to keep a kid out of trouble is to keep him busy and tired. He's only 9 but it's funny how everytime we come back from fishing or are heading to the ballpark there's always 3 or 4 boys down on the corner just looking for something to do. Which usually leads to trouble. The truth of it is he keeps me out of trouble too!!!LOL

Thanks again

Hey Brad where you are fishing we have always called Seidler's flat. There is a long flat that runs from there over to the other bank at the corner. We use to fish there a ton before sun came up with top. We have a bayhouse right by that the white octagon one. Great report. I think that is a huge trout for Christmas Bay these days.

Thanks Hoover and Gary

Hoover that's good info thanks.

Gary yeah I'm still running the 16 ft. skiff but would definitely like to upgrade. With buying this company this year money's pretty tight right now. Maybe next year. I've been on the beach a few times this year but haven't caught ya in your spot.

Thanks again

Good post and pics, but....

.......you broke the golden rule of dead fish pictures:

Never post a pic of yourself holding the fish, always have your kids hold the fish! As soon as you show a picture of the fish with you in it, the fish shrinks. Besides nobody wants to see our ugly mugs.

This is how it should be done.

Just kidding! Nice fish and even better story.

Mike
